About the Role

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is running a national recruitment inventory for Correctional Officer I (CX-01) positions at federal institutions across the country. Correctional Officers maintain the safety and security of federal penitentiaries: they conduct routine patrols and inmate counts, supervise inmate movement and escorts inside institutions and in the community, search cells, living units, vehicles and surrounding areas, verify safety equipment, and draft daily logs and reports. Institutions operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so officers work shifts, variable hours, weekends and statutory holidays.

Requirements

• A secondary school diploma, or a satisfactory score on the approved Public Service Commission equivalency test
• Must successfully complete the three-stage CSC Correctional Training Program — Stage 1 (online, ~80 hours), Stage 2 (online, ~40 hours), and Stage 3 (in-person, ~14 weeks, primarily in Kingston, ON or Summerside, PEI)
• Valid unrestricted driver’s licence, maintained throughout employment
• Must meet Health Canada Category III medical requirements (vision, hearing, physical fitness) and CSC psychological requirements
• Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C with AED certificate
• Enhanced Reliability Status security clearance

Salary & Benefits

The listed annual salary is $77,510 per year. During Stage 3 of the training program, recruits receive a $400/week allowance (up to $5,600) in addition to meals and lodging.
